Media Cabinet
This media cabinet for a customer was an exercise in combining very specific functional requirements with an aesthetic vision. Conceptually, the piece is a fir box supported by a walnut frame. (See original model). Some of the functional needs were ventilation from all sides, precise dimensions to fit various audio components and finally where to run the power cords in an accessible manner. The design developed from the linear quality of the vertical grain Douglas fir which was emphasized by gluing up narrow pieces of fir. This became an organizing principle of the design, in the expressed finger joints of the box, the ventilation slats, the front door panel and finally the top with its wire management solution.
